!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

While the publication touts there were 211,600 station wagons sold in the United States last year, it isn’t revealed until later that station wagon sales declined by 26,000 units from 2017. Sales were also down 7,400 units from 2016 when Americans snapped up 219,000 wagons.

That might not sound like much of a difference, but it’s a huge number when the market is so small. Case-in-point, Volvo only sold 491 V90’s in the United States last year.

With that caveat of the way, it is true that wagon sales have climbed significantly since 2013 when automakers only sold 164,100 wagons in America. The jump means the station wagon segment is now growing nearly twice as fast as the full-size truck segment. Of course, wagon sales are just a fraction of truck sales as Ford sold 909,330 F-Series pickups last year alone.

The uptick in wagon sales can likely be attributed to a flood of new models such as the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and the aforementioned !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . There are even more new wagons on the horizon as the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will arrive at dealerships later this year.

Is this a sign of a tide that’s turning? Nah, the SUVs/Crossovers market is a Tsunami that’s hard to resist IMO.

Give it time.  SUVs/Crossovers will be replaced with lifted wagons, then wagons, and then it’s back to sedans or minivans.

I don’t mind driving a lifted wagon. Usually it’s only like 2 inches or so. Case in point the new V60, as much as I love the regular version it will be on special order only, and V60 cross country (+3 inches ride height and cladding) will be the one stocked at dealerships. Meaning the regular V60 will be both rare and expensive even when I want to buy one used. I’ll take a V60 T6 Cross Country for a family car.

“Fastest growing”

Yeah, if they sold 2 in 2018, and 1 in 2017... then this segment has increased by 100%! More than any other segment.

Our long national nightmare might finally be ending.

Seriously, though, this is just a return to the status quo. When I was a kid, you couldn’t throw a stone in a parking lot in an affluent suburb of Philadelphia without hitting either a Mercedes diesel wagon or a Volvo 240 wagon, usually with a cage in the back for a Golden Retriever*.

*sometimes, it would be an MGB Roadster, but they usually just came out in the summer.

Uptick in wagon sales because more wagons are for sale?

Well yeah,, if wagon manufacturers actually have more real compet iti on, they’ll have to make awesome wagons to sell any.

Besides, Buick couldn’t move a farts worth of Tour Xs at MRSP. The uptick in their sales is because dealers are finally giving incen tives. And the Buick guy keeps parroting his sales pitch - oh, wagon buyers want these cars cos they don’t want to go with the flow (of getting an SUV. Aren’t you unique, reader? ). These wagon buyers are typically richer and more educated (And what about you, reader? A Kardashian SUV for you, or our sophisticated w agon?) .
